It’s great to be an NW8-mum!
Below you can read what some NW8-mums’ experiences have been like.
When I meet many mums, and sometimes fathers too, some of the most common remarks are ‘I wish I had been in touch, but I wasn’t sure if I could or should’, ‘I didn’t know how active NW8-mums is’, ‘I was shy about it’, ‘I felt like I had a silly question’ and so on. Most of these encounters are by chance, and you usually tell me you wish you had been in touch or had been brave to just pop around to one of our coffee mornings after all.
Some of you also feel shy about turning up for coffee, because you don’t know anyone. One of the lovely aspects of the coffee mornings is that it is not a clique, and a big part of that is that there is always a mix of new and familiar faces, and everyone makes you feel welcome. It is a wonderful mix of ages, nationalities and backgrounds.
If you would like to know who is coming to coffee, please send me an email on NW8mums@gmail.com and I will get you in touch with the lovely women of NW8-mums. Karin x

We have our own badges so we can recognise eachother at events. It was suggested by some of the mums. They found they often attended the same events, but didn’t recognise eachother and were too shy to approach others.
‘NW8-mums is so much more than a community. It is a home and support network for mums in the St John’s Wood area. As a first time mother who was also new to the area I found the group helpful in multiple ways. Either through the website, Facebook or WhatsApp group you can get invaluable information and find out what is going on. The local events are also extremely useful and a good chance to meet other local mums. It is very reassuring to feel that you’re not alone and can reach out to a group of lovely ladies who are always willing to help. Karin is one of the sweetest people I have ever met – she somehow finds time to help every mum individually and provides a wealth of information. I feel very fortunate to be a part of the group and highly recommend it!’ C (Brazilian)

‘I moved to London with a 2-month old baby and this website and Karin were a safe-net for me! I hadn’t even moved in to my new flat and was already looking forward to all the activities the neighbourhood had to offer! When in doubt regarding what surgery to sign up with or GP recommendations, Karin was there to help with suggestions. When in search for baby friendly activities, there was again this site and Karin with tips. The Whatsapp groups she set up are the best to get information and advice from other moms in your same situation. Finding this site and group gave me the peace of mind of knowing where to turn to in a new city if I needed anything. Thanks so much!’ María (Spanish)

‘Dear Karin,
Just wanted to write a quick note firstly to thank you for your prompt responses whenever I had a query from baby sniffles to local plumbers. You always have an answer or if you don’t know the answer, find someone who does. Even though I am not super active on the group chat or attend the coffee meet-ups, the network has been a lifeline for me and for this I thank you. Best of luck on your continuous journey and happy to be a small part of it. Oh, I thank all the other mums who also make it happen.
Kindest regards,
Flora’

‘I moved to St. John’s Wood from New York when my son was 6 months old. It was the middle of winter and he was still napping 2-3 times a day, so I found it really challenging to meet other mums in the area. Every time I planned on going somewhere my son would fall asleep or get hungry – I felt like we never left the house! NW8-mums put me in touch with an amazing network of local mums and provided me with extensive information on my new home. I no longer felt completely alone in a new city. I’ve found great baby classes, top notch physicians and exciting fitness classes through the website. I am truly grateful for this amazing resource and the community it has provided me with.’ Amanda (American)

One of the beautiful streets in the area.
‘My journey as an NW8 mum started with my pregnancy. I spoke to the lovely Karin who asked me to pop by for a coffee morning. And just like that I met one of my best mum friends! My whole pregnancy/ childbirth and the toughest first 3 months would have been impossible without this support system. If there’s anything wrong or if I need advice, I just pick up my phone and ramble away on the WhatsApp group. Sometimes as a new mum, that’s what you need, that reassurance that someone is there at all hours!
Karin is always so sweet, and it’s just wonderful to walk on the high street/ go for a class and meet friendly faces. All in all I would highly recommend this group to everyone; new mums, old mums, local and even not so local, as in the end, we all have the same stories, just different days. Big hug, N’

‘We moved to St John’s Wood from New York City when our daughter was 18 months old, and I was so lucky to hear about the NW8-mums group before we moved. Simply knowing there was an active mums group in the area was a huge help in easing my anxiety, and it made the move to a new country infinitely easier. Once I came to know Karin and many other moms in the group, I realised how lucky I am to have such a caring and supportive group of mums around me. Karin is a fountain of knowledge and she somehow makes time to help every single mum in NW8 on top of raising her own family. I am so beyond thankful for this incredible community of mums!’ R (American)

‘NW8-mums is a very warm, extremely friendly and welcoming group, where each member is equally valued. I wished I joined the pregnancy group, but I was skeptical. I thought it was mainly a group for mums with older children, which was contrary to it. It is a group for expecting /new mums and others who help each other get by one day at a time. It is administered by our Lovely Karin, who personally is involved everyday. Best feature is the WhatsApp group and local meetings. I really enjoyed meeting the members at the autumn dinner. I feel I have made meaningful relationships. Whether it’s feeding, weaning, teething, or nappy rash, bring it on, there is help along from all supermums who will guide you to get on with it. :)’ M (Indian)

One of our informal dinners.
Dear Karin,
Thank you! Thank you! and Thank you! NW8-mums has provided invaluable support to me and my family. I never thought that I would find such a strong group of supportive mums willing to help each other and give advise from the simplest to the most complex issues. We all have different challenges as parents and feel lonely sometimes, but sharing with NW8-mums has made a big difference.
I encourage all mums to join the chats and FB groups as I am sure there is something helpful for everyone. Finally, being away from home can be an extra challenge when raising a family. For me, NW8-mums has somehow made distance from the family easier 🙂 L (Colombia)
