NW8 is situated in leafy St John’s Wood in North West London. It is home to the legendary Lord’s Cricket Ground as well as the pedestrian crossing on Abbey Road (made famous by The Beatles) in front of Abbey Road Studios.
St John’s Wood sits right next to Regent’s Park and Primrose Hill. It is situated close to Paddington Recreation Ground (often referred to as Padd Rec) and Hampstead Heath, and it is easy to get to Hyde Park (both the 46 and 274 buses will take you there; just stay on the bus until it gets to its last stop, Lancaster Gate, and it is right there). There are also smaller, lesser-known parks. Violet Hill is one of my favourites. The St John’s Wood Church Grounds at the bottom of St John’s Wood High Street is where I used to take both my children every day – come rain or shine – before they started school. There is also Regent’s Canal which is lovely to walk along, and which in places is very picturesque.
Neighbouring areas Maida Vale, Little Venice, Swiss Cottage, South Hampstead and West Hampstead, Belsize Park, Hampstead, Primrose Hill and Marylebone are all within walking distance or a short bus journey away.
It is a great place to raise children. St John’s Wood has a real village feel to it. NW8-mums hope to be able to share it with you and perhaps introduce you to some unknown treasures!
