NW8 is situated in leafy St John’s Wood in North West London. It is home to the legendary Lord’s Cricket Ground as well as the pedestrian crossing on Abbey Road (made famous by The Beatles) in front of Abbey Road Studios.
St John’s Wood sits right next to Regent’s Park and Primrose Hill. It is situated close to Paddington Recreation Ground (often referred to as Padd Rec), Queen’s Park, Golders Hill Park and Hampstead Heath. Even Hyde Park is quick and easy to get to (both the 46 and 274 buses will take you there; just stay on the bus until it gets to its last stop, Lancaster Gate, and Hyde Park is right there).
There are also smaller, lesser-known parks like Violet Hill and St John’s Wood Church Grounds at the bottom of St John’s Wood High Street where I used to take both my children every day – come rain or shine – before they started school. There is also Regent’s Canal which is lovely to walk along; take a stroll towards Little Venice – it is very picturesque – or go to Camden Lock and Camden Market for a completely different vibe. You can also go on a canal boat as well as hire boats should you like to do something a bit different.
Neighbouring areas Maida Vale, Little Venice, Swiss Cottage, South Hampstead, West Hampstead, Belsize Park, Hampstead, Primrose Hill and Marylebone are all within walking distance or a short bus journey away.
St John’s Wood is a great place to raise children and has a real village feel to it. NW8-mums hope to be able to share it with you and perhaps introduce you to some unknown treasures!
